Collaboration between two sole proprietors

Question

I am planning to start a joint project with a colleague (who also has his own sole proprietor) and have my own sole proprietor. Is it possible for the project to run through my sole proprietor, and for me to divide the costs and revenues by invoicing my colleague’s sole proprietor? Is this acceptable in a sole proprietor, or do we need to set up a general partnership for this type of project?

Thank you for your clear and quick answer! Does this type of collaboration require any updated activities for my sole proprietor, or is that not necessary?
